The Establishment of the Federation of Social Sciences Circles at Our University

On the morning of January 13, the inauguration ceremony and first congress of the Federation of Social Sciences Circles at Dalian University of Foreign Languages (hereinafter referred to as the "University Federation of Social Sciences") were held in the lecture hall of the university library.

At the meeting, Li Chunji, Director of the Research Department, delivered a report on the preparations for the establishment of the University Federation of Social Sciences on behalf of the preparatory working group. The newly elected first committee members then convened their inaugural plenary meeting. During the closing ceremony, Wang Weichen, the newly elected Chairman of the University Federation of Social Sciences, delivered a speech. The congress was presided over by President Cong Mingcai.  


In the afternoon of the same day, the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences Circles held a symposium on academic work and youth talent development in Dalian. Chen Hongjun, Secretary-General of the Liaoning Provincial Translation Association and Professor at the School of Foreign Languages, Dalian University of Technology, and Xie Fengyuan, Deputy Director of the "Belt and Road" Foreign Policy Research Base at Dalian University of Foreign Languages and Associate Professor at the Business School, presented reports on their respective work.  


Representatives of young talents from Liaoning Normal University and Dalian University shared their experiences in work and research. Zhou Zhaoming, Second-Level Inspector of the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences Circles, provided specialized guidance on policy advisory services, pointing the way for future efforts in think tank development. Vice Chairman Yang Bo expressed earnest expectations and clear requirements for the innovative development of academic work and the cultivation of young talents. He emphasized that social science scholars should embrace the "great cause of the nation," leverage their professional expertise to serve national strategic needs, and contribute to the advancement of Chinese modernization by grounding their work in local contexts while maintaining a global perspective.  


Following the meeting, leaders of the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences Circles visited the university’s history museum, the "War and Peace: National Memory Exhibition Hall of Modern History in Lvshun, Dalian," and the Digital Humanities Innovation Laboratory for New Liberal Arts.  


This congress represents an important step in implementing the National Education Work Conference, a proactive response to the call for the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences in the new era, and a critical move in optimizing the university’s disciplinary structure, integrating academic resources, and enhancing research innovation capabilities. It marks the entry of the university’s social science work into a new phase of systematic, collaborative, and high-quality development. The University Federation of Social Sciences will fully leverage the university’s unique advantages in multilingual and cross-cultural studies, striving to build a discourse system for philosophy and social sciences that embodies both Chinese characteristics and an international vision. It aims to make new and greater contributions to the flourishing of philosophy and social sciences and to serve the practice of Chinese modernization in Liaoning. (By Li Duofei)
