The 10th Forum on Reform and Development of Foreign Language Education in Colleges and Universities was held in Beijing from March 21 to 22. Under the theme of "Integrating China and the World, Empowered by Digital Intelligence", the forum brought together leading officials from relevant departments including the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Education, as well as more than 2,000 experts and scholars in foreign language education, educational internationalization, and educational digitalization. Over 300,000 peers in higher foreign language education participated online via live streaming to jointly discuss strategies for the innovative development of higher foreign language education during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. Professor Cong Mingcai, President of our university, Professor Liu Fengguang, Vice President, together with a number of other experts and scholars, were invited to attend the forum, presiding over several sessions and delivering special reports.
During the keynote speech session on the morning of March 21, the launching ceremony of the new book Call of a Strong Nation: Exploration and Practice of Foreign Language Education Reform in Higher Education in the New Era was held. Edited by Professor Wenjian Jia, President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the book features Professor Cong Mingcai, President of our university, as one of its representative authors. Together with Professor Ning Qi, Vice President of Peking University, Professor Liu Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning Normal University, Professor Dong Hongchuan, President of Sichuan International Studies University, Professor Yan Xiangbin, President of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Professor Li Yingying , President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Professor Zhong Weihe, President of Sino-Western Innovation Institute, Professor Wu Yaowu, President of Xi’an International Studies University, and Ms. Wang Fang , President of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Professor Cong unveiled the new book. Focusing on core topics such as reform and innovation in foreign language universities, construction of an independent knowledge system for foreign language disciplines, reform of foreign language-related majors and college foreign language education, and development of foreign language teaching staff, the book presents an overall picture and typical cases of foreign language education reform in higher education in the new era, aiming to provide ideological guidance and practical references for the reform and development of foreign language education.
